Possibly there was confusion because though born in Mason County, Miles was enslaved in Fleming County at the time of enlistment and was credited there rather than Mason.] Sept 1864 return says On daily duty at Sec 51 N N.W. RR by order of Captain W.F. Surgin Comdg Regt.” Nov-Dec 1864 roll says “Absent sick since December 16, 1864. December 1864 and January 1865 returns say “Absent sick Nashville, Tenn. since December 16, 1864.”Jan-Feb roll says “Absent sick at Nashville, Tenn. since January 16, 1865.” [That date seems to be incorrect-- should be December 16, 1864]. March-April 1865 and all rolls thereafter soldier appears as present.
