[He?] left the camp and garrison equipage [choeque?]- which he took
with him and as there was none in his inventory of effect consider it
my duty to charge the same – I sent descriptive list with him to
Hospital - Surgeon in charge applied for another which I did not
send – it is very [obvious?] his accounts are [correct?] - as set
forth - it is shown by his inventory of effects that he died June
16, 1865. I saw said inventory yesterday October 1st 1865.”

War Dept Memorandum dated May 24, 1924 states: It has this day been
determined by this Department from the records that the discharge
from service on November 10, 1865 was not honorable. By authority of
the Secretary of War: Lutz Wahl” The court martial summary of
proceedings states that he was accused of “Disobedience of Orders”
on the night of August 15, 1865 between 8p.m. and midnight. He was
accused of leaving the camp of the Provost Guard with other enlisted
men and proceeding to the city of Wilmington, N.C. in “open
violation of orders.” He pled not guilty but was found guilty and
sentenced to be reduced to ranks and to lose one month's pay. He was
then to be transported to his home state and mustered out [the rest
of the regiment had already been mustered out in September].
