Jul-Aug 1864. “injury of right eye resulting in partial loss of sight received in the line of duty-- Also gunshot wound of left thigh” received in action. Roll through the Jul-Aug 1865 roll says: Absent sick in Summit House Hospital, Pa since July 30, 1864. $100 bounty still due him at date of muster-out. Hospital records say residence was Brown County, OH. And closest relative was Mary Underwood of that county. Admitted to Slough Hospital Sept 16, 1865. Surgeon's certificate there recommended that he be discharged and said that he was due a pension. “Degree of Disability 1/3”. CMSR file includes furlough approval from Sept of 1864 and a stub from a “pass book”
