William H. Richardson of Mason County. Nov. 1864-Jan. 1865 rolls say
“Absent. In hospital at Camp Nelson, Ky.” Jan-Feb 1866 roll says
“Sentenced by Field Court Martial to 30 days confinement,
promulgated per S.O. No. 14 Hd Qrs. 5Th U.S.C.C. Helena, Arkansas
date January 25, 1866. Specification of the court martial was that
Dandridge “did steal or [illegible] take one cavalry greatcoat, the
property of Sergeant Robert Arthur, Company A, 5th U.S.C. Cavalry.
This from a tent occupied by Sergeant Robert Arthur or quarters in
the camp of the Fifth U.S.C. Cavalry near Helena Arkansas on or about
the 9th of January 1866.” The second specification was that
Dandridge “did sell or dispose of one U.S. Cavalry greatcoat to a
citizen, one C.C. Glover” on or about the same day. Dandridge pled
guilty to both and was found guilty of both and sentenced “to be
confined at hard labor with his regiment for the period of one
month.” He mustered out March 16, of 1866, last having been paid
October 31, 1865.

1864.” Nov 1864- Feb 1865 company rolls say “Absent sick in
Louisville, Ky. since July 12, 1864.” but Nov.-Dec. 1864 hospital
roll says “Present” for “Woodward U.S.A. Post Hospital,
Cincinnati, OH.” Mar-Jun 1865 company rolls say “Absent without
leave since April 25, 1865” But hospital roll for May and June 1865
in U.S.A. Gen. Hospital, Fort Monroe, Va. says “Present.”
July-Aug 1865 Company roll says “Loss. April 26, 1865 Near
Petersburg, Va. Deserted U.S. Service on the march.” Sept-Oct 1865
Company roll says “Absent sick at Fort Monroe, Va. Since July 6,
1865.” and “Taken up from desertion having been dropped by
mistake” “he having been sent to G.H. in April 1865, while on the
march and no report of the fact having been made by the surgeon.”
Certificate for discharge states: “This man was wounded in
Louisville, Kentucky by the accidental discharge of his musket” and
“Gunshot wound of right wrist which has caused complete
[Auchylosis?] of joint, and gunshot wound of lower third of left arm
fracturing radius and resulting in adhesion and contraction of muscle
so that motion of wrist joint is much impaired. Disability three
fourths (¾) – J.H. Franz, Assistant Surgeon” Discharged for
Disability at Hicks U.S.A. General Hospital Baltimore, Md. November
23, 1865. Soldier wished to be addressed at Town: Washington, County:
Mason, State: Kentucky. Hospital records stated: Marital status,
Single. Closest relative, Carolin [Sims?] of Washington, Ky. And
injury was a “Gunshot wound through right wrist”. Occasion of
injury was: Accidentally, Date was 16 July 1864. Nature of missile or
weapon was: miniee ball. No treatment or results listed.
